CHAIRMAN’S REPORT

The 10th Annual General Meeting of The Association of
Registered Fire Service Installation Contractors of Hong Kong Limited

Honourable guests, dear members, good evening

I am pleased in presenting the annual report on behalf of the 10th Council of The Association of Registered Fire Service Installation Contractors of Hong Kong Limited.

This year is the 2nd council year of the 10th Council. After the AGM the 10th Council shall handover their duties for the operation of the Association to the new Council for another two years.

Starting this council year, the Association set up 12 committees. Each committee, which is headed by a Council member as the chairman of the committee, handles different functions and operations of the Council. Committees’ chairmen are required to submit a written report to the Council at monthly Council meeting. The results of the past two years confirm that the organizational change has been completed successfully.

This is also evidenced by increasing members of the association. Over the past two years, the member of the association has increased by 20%. Details are as follows:

Major Activities Reports

Training

1. One (1) preparatory course for Class 3 Registered Contractor Registration Examination.

2. Technical Seminar a. Fire Hydrant / Hose Reel System b. Sprinkler System

Recreation

Leaded by the committee chairman Ken Poon, the Association started its golfing activities in 2002. Since then, the association has held three golf tournaments. It has become the most popular activity of the association

International links

1. Four Council members, Peter Lam, Wicky Lo, Michael Lam and Tommy Poon represented the Association visited Shanghai Fire Bureau and representatives of Shanghai fire installation contractors in Oct 2003 to establish communication channel between Hong Kong and China fire industry.

2. Following the Shanghai visit, Peter Lam, Wicky Lo, Ken Poon and Tommy Poon represented the Association to meet the representatives from Shanghai Fire Protection Association and Guangdong Fire Bureau in Panyu on 28 Nov 2003.

3. Peter Lam and Simon Tsang represented the Association to attend the MOC Conference held in Wuhan in 2003.

4. The Association as supporting organization participated in the Asian Elenex 2004 and Asian Building Technologies 2004 held in June/2004.

Technical

The members of the Technical Committee participated three (3) FSI Inspection Procedures Working Group meeting

Safety

The Association joined The Hong Kong Federation of Electrical and Mechanical Contractors to hold an E&M industry safety walk in November 2003.

Housing Department

Being the busiest committee, the Housing committee met almost every month with Housing Department to review the standard conditions of contract, technical specifications, problems of Housing contracts and final account matter.

However we have yet seen a significant rebound at the business scene, I think it takes 12 months to realise these opportunities from drawing boards to order books.
